When: September 22, 2022
Where: Cancun, Mexico, at the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Forum 2022. The SVRI Forum is the largest global, abstract-driven research and advocacy conference on violence against women and children.
Research and funding for combating gender-based violence (GBV) can unintentionally strengthen the power imbalance between North-based donors, academics, and organizations and the South-based organizations they aim to help, by excluding the needs and experiences of women’s grassroots organizations in Latin America. The so-called “third world feminism” from Latin America has challenged traditional grantmaking and advocated for changes and solutions.
The Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) will convene donors, researchers, and activists working on the frontlines to end violence against women in Latin America.
Latin American women will discuss funding practices that have been unintentionally harmful and concrete ideas to enhance the current funding system. This includes proposals to shift the power imbalances between donors and organizations to decolonize philanthropy.
This session will take place in Spanish with English interpretation.
